It’s time for another Immanuel Ministry blog post! I am blessed to share with you some nuggets that God has laid on my heart this week. But first, here is a brief “Who Am I?” for those of you who don’t know me well.
I come from a small town (less than 700) in the beautiful state of Michigan. I have great childhood memories of camping, fishing, all things outdoors, visiting the Great Lakes and many exciting places throughout the state. 4-H was a big part of life – showing rabbits and sheep, archery and other projects, and the weeklong county fair was always a highlight of my summer. After high school, I attended Concordia – Chicago (or RIVER FOREST as it was called then), intending to go into the field of athletic training. God had other plans for me and laid on my heart to be in full-time ministry as a DCE. After a year-long internship in northwest Indiana, I was called to serve at Glendale Lutheran Church in St. Louis County with a focus on Children and Youth Ministry and eventually, all areas of Discipleship.
God called me to Immanuel five years ago as the Director of Christian Education (DCE) for Youth Ministry in grades 6-12. It is an honor and a blessing to be in ministry with youth and families at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School and I find great joy in serving along side each of you in our mission to Connect, Grow, Serve as that community in Christ.
This past weekend, the 8th grade Confirmation class spent time choosing their class verse. They went through different passages, created skits, songs and other unique ways to present the verses to the rest of the group. After narrowing down the verses, the class selected Psalm 27:1 – “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
What a great comfort and joy to be assured by God that we have no need to fear. God is our constant, our firm foundation, our protector, our ever-present help in times of trouble. I love the imagery of Jesus as the light. Darkness cannot win. Jesus has defeated sin, death and the devil. Jesus wins!
What a beautiful message we find in this Psalm – reminding us that Jesus has done it all. He IS our light and our salvation, our stronghold. What a beautiful reminder of the great love that God has for each and every one of us. May God bless your day as you live in the confidence that Jesus Loves You!
