I love to read (including going on long walks while listening to audio books!), watch NFL games with my husband (go Chiefs!), and spend time with family and friends.
Academics aside, my students are first and foremost God’s children who need His love, forgiveness, and guidance. I am also very passionate about the skills and life lessons you can learn through school that will shape you as a person and stick with you. For example, you may not need to know how to diagram a sentence in 20 years, but it’s so valuable to learn how to ask for help, to problem solve, and to persevere through a tough challenge.
Since I started teaching I’ve always had a sign hanging up that says “In this classroom we love and respect each other.” I absolutely do my best to hold myself and my students to that standard. In terms of Communication Arts, I push my students to be organized in their writing, to clearly express opinions that they can back up with evidence, and to navigate a text skillfully enough to understand the basis of it but then also be able to go deeper, ask questions, and make connections.
